FAQ

The questions couples ask me most

Short, honest answers to what couples ask me before we begin. For the longer version, read the full guide.

Do we have to marry legally in Croatia to get married on Korčula?
No. Most of my international couples complete the legal marriage at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here, which keeps the paperwork light. If you would rather marry legally in Croatia, that works too, and I arrange it with the registry office in Korčula.
What documents do we need for a legal wedding, and when should we start?
You'll need documents from your home country: a birth certificate extract, proof of identity and citizenship, a certificate that you are free to marry, and confirmation that the marriage will be recognised at home. Each has to be translated into Croatian and dated within three to six months of the wedding. Start gathering them at least four to six months ahead. I handle the submission to the Korčula registry, so you are not chasing offices in a language you don't speak.
Can we have a church wedding?
Yes. For a Catholic ceremony I sort out the paperwork and the date with the local parish and the Diocese of Dubrovnik.
When is the best time of year to get married on Korčula?
May, June, early July, September and early October. The temperatures are mild and the light is at its best for photographs. I usually steer couples away from late July and August, when it is too hot for an outdoor ceremony and the island is crowded. It can still be done then, it is just harder.
Where can we hold the ceremony?
A ceremony by the sea, a small one in Korčula's old town, or a hidden cove on the nearby islands of Badija and Vrnik. Konoba Maha is one venue I work with often, intimate and private, suited to 30 to 60 guests.
How do our guests get to Korčula?
Most fly into Split and take the fast catamaran straight to Korčula, or into Dubrovnik and drive across the Pelješac bridge to the Orebić ferry. In summer the catamaran seats sell out, so ask your guests to book early. For where they sleep, I arrange private villas with a pool for the inner circle and private rooms in Korčula town for everyone else.
How many guests can you host well on Korčula?
Up to around 80, at the level of service I want to give. The island suits a smaller, considered guest list better than a large one.
How far ahead should we start planning?
Eight to twelve months. The best locations and the villas book out quickly, especially in the peak months, so the earlier we start, the more of your first choices are still open.
What does it cost?
My planning fee starts at €800 and depends on how much you would like me to carry, from day-of coordination through to full planning. Every wedding is priced individually, once I know your guest count, venue and season, so you only pay for the help you actually need.
What exactly do you take care of?
I can run the whole wedding or step in where you need me. That covers the design, booking and coordinating the local team (photographers, videographers, florists, hair and make-up, musicians, celebrants), the legal or church paperwork, and running the day itself so you can be a guest at your own wedding. I do not rent equipment or make the flowers in-house; I design the concept and bring in trusted specialists to deliver it.
